Grand Democratic Alliance (GDA) Information Secretary Sardar Abdul Rahim has pointed fingers at corrupt elites, alleging a deliberate orchestration of the ongoing wheat crisis to line their pockets.
Despite ample domestic production, the caretaker government's decision to import more wheat has sparked widespread scepticism, with many viewing it as a detrimental move amidst dwindling foreign exchange reserves.
Rahim emphasized that this purported scheme not only squanders precious foreign exchange but also undermines the toil of the nation's farmers and cultivators. Distressingly, wheat farmers are reportedly receiving less than half of the promised purchase price, further exacerbating their plight.
In response, GDA's Information Secretary declared solidarity with Sindh's farmers, pledging full support for any protests against the wheat scandal. Sardar Abdul Rahim, also serving as the Secretary General of Pakistan Muslim League Functional Sindh, stressed the urgent need to halt the cycle of exploitation endured by farmers. Despite their relentless efforts, farmers often find themselves deprived of fair compensation for their harvest.
Rahim urged Sindh's authorities to shield farmers from exploitation by swiftly opening purchase centres across the province and ensuring farmers receive official support, including gunny bags. Failure to address these grievances, he warned, could force farmers onto the streets in protest against governmental apathy and corrupt practices.
