Prince Harry has returned to the United Kingdom with a packed agenda, but a reunion with King Charles III isn't on the itinerary. “In response to the many inquiries and continued speculation on whether or not The Duke will meet with his father while in the UK this week, it unfortunately will not be possible due to His Majesty’s full program,” a spokesperson for Harry, 39, told Us Weekly on May 7.
On Tuesday, the Duke of Sussex appeared at The IGF Conversation: Realising a Global Community event, where he was photographed alongside Dominic Reid OBE, CEO of the Invictus Games Foundation. Harry shook hands with patrons and even gave a speech, celebrating the 10th anniversary of the Invictus Games.
The centrepiece of Harry's visit is a church service at St. Paul’s Cathedral on Wednesday, May 8. Meghan Markle and their children, Archie, 5, and Lilibet, 2, will not be present, but Harry and Meghan plan to head to Nigeria after the U.K. trip.
Despite the attention on the royal family's ups and downs, a source told Us Weekly that Harry is open to reconnecting with his family. “The brothers haven’t spoken [but] there is potential for that. [Harry] would be more than happy,” the insider shared, adding that Harry had extended invitations to his family for the Invictus Games celebrations.
A separate source revealed that Harry is “very content” and no longer harbours old feelings about the family rift. “He feels that his life has purpose and meaning and that he can bring a lot of good to the world,” the insider added.
Harry and Meghan stepped back from royal duties in 2020 and moved to California, which widened the gap between Harry and his brother, Prince William. Despite the tension, Harry flew back to the U.K. in February after his father's cancer diagnosis.
“I jumped on a plane and went to go see him as soon as I could,” he said during a Good Morning America interview on February 16. “I love my family. The fact that I was able to get on a plane and go and see him and spend any time with him, I’m grateful for that.”
