Gunna fans make Fox Theatre balcony shake in viral Detroit concert video
A video showing the balcony at Detroit's Fox Theatre swaying during a concert by rapper Gunna on Monday night has gone viral, sparking concerns about safety.
However, officials at the historic venue have assured fans that the movement is entirely safe.
The video, shared by Gunna himself on social media, shows the balcony noticeably bouncing as fans jump and dance along to the music.
With over 2.6 million views on Instagram, the clip caused some concertgoers to question whether the balcony was stable. One user wrote, “Nah that joint is about to collapse.”
In 2021, a concert from Travis Scott’s ASTROWORLD tour caused a crowd surge, resulting in ten civilian deaths.
Ilitch Sports + Entertainment released a statement reported by Detroit Free Press to address those concerns.
“The type of movement seen at the recent Fox Theatre concert is common and expected on free-standing balcony structures, to support audience members actively dancing, as shown during last night’s concert,” the statement explained.
“This capability is an integral part of the balcony’s structural engineering design. Regular inspections, most recently conducted in April, are completed to ensure the integrity and safety of the structure.”
Built in 1928, the Fox Theatre is a Detroit landmark known for its opulent interior and a seat capacity of over 5000.
