May the 4th be with you: Biden’s Star Wars video fails to sweep fans

Even the appearance of Luke Skywalker himself, actor Mark Hamill, couldn’t spare the video from online criticism.

President Biden marked Star Wars Day by sharing a special clip on X that featured a surprise appearance by none other than Luke Skywalker himself, actor Mark Hamill.

In the video, Biden delivered the classic line, "May the 4th be with you," prompting Hamill to respond with a pointed "Always."

However, the clip quickly faced criticism from social media users who deemed it lackluster. Some publications described the US president’s efforts as “cringeworthy.,”

Standing in the Oval Office, Biden and Hamill stood side by side, leaving just enough space for a portrait of Franklin D. Roosevelt to observe their interaction.

Despite garnering 4.8 million views within hours, the video received ridicule from many online users. Comedian Tim Young didn't hold back, mocking the pair by likening them to a "dementia patient and a homeless drunk." Others labeled Biden as a national embarrassment and criticised their performance.

The clip surfaced shortly after Hamill's visit to the White House press room, where he sported aviator shades gifted by the president.

Recounting his meeting with Biden, Hamill shared a playful moment where he referred to Biden as "Joe-bi-Won Kenobi."

Hamill has been vocal about his support of both Biden and Israel, as widespread demonstrations continue on US college campuses to protest the Israeli war on Gaza.
