Mehwish Hayat takes a risk with Nazia Hassan’s ‘Boom Boom’, leaves fans disappointed

A clip of the actor’s take on the song has been circulating on social media, and fans are not happy

Actor and singer Mehwish Hayat paid tribute to the late legend Nazia Hassan by performing her iconic 1982 hit Boom Boom at a disco party in Dubai. Clad in a long black dress, Mehwish serenaded her audience amid flashing lights, swaying in time to the music.

As the short video of Mehwish’s impromptu performance popped up on various social media platforms, fans of the late singer all but unanimously rose in arms to slam the Ms Marvel actor’s rendition of the song. Wherever the clip was posted, the comments ranged from a scathing “She could have paid better tribute by NOT singing at all” to a merciless “Please don’t sing again.” One particularly ruthless viewer requested a “2-minute silence” after watching the video.

Keyboard warriors aside, Mehwish continues to enjoy an upward trajectory in her showbiz career, and was most recently seen in a lead role in Daghabaaz Dil. In addition to taking on acting roles, Mehwish recently made waves by announcing on her Instagram handle that she would be collaborating with one of her “favourite kalakaar”, renowned Bollywood rapper Yo Yo Honey Singh. The song is yet to be released, but with Mehwish having previously promised the track is “awesome”, fans can be sure of being in for a treat.
