Hong Kong actors Roger Kwok and Cindy Au have revealed their separation after 18 years of marriage.

In two similar statements released on social media, the couple expressed their gratitude for the years together while acknowledging the “inevitable and difficult” decision to divorce.

The statement read, “I’m thankful for the wonderful times we had together. We have been living separately in the last two years, and the decision to divorce was made after careful consideration and communication between us.”

Kwok, 59, and Au, 44, have been living apart for the past two years, according to their social media posts. They share a 16-year-old son and a 13-year-old daughter.

The news came as a shock to fans, with many concerned users commenting, “Take care.”

The couple’s romance began in 1999 when they met filming a travel show. They tied the knot in a wedding at Hong Kong Disneyland in 2006.

Kwok is known for his roles in several dramas, including “At the Threshold of an Era,” “Square Pegs,” and “Black Heart White Soul.”

Au, before finding success as an actor, sang the Cantonese theme song of the popular Japanese anime series "Chibi Maruko-chan" in 1997.

However, she gave up acting after marriage to focus on family and later pursued a degree in nutrition.

In 2016, Kwok reportedly battled depression while filming a dark TVB drama. The emotional toll and differing parenting styles reportedly caused friction in their marriage.

The couple's public appearances together dwindled in recent years. Their last social media post featuring both of them dates back to September 2019.

Hong Kong media reported that their most recent public appearance together was in 2020, where they attended and even performed at the TVB music show “Cantopop At 50.”

While the exact reasons for their split remain undisclosed, both Kwok and Au expressed their well-wishes for each other's future.
