Benedict Cumberbatch plays a desperate father in upcoming Netflix thriller "Eric"

Can he find his missing son, or will his mental deterioration lead him down a dark path?

Benedict Cumberbatch delivers a gripping performance as Vincent, a distraught father in the chilling Netflix limited series "Eric".

Set against the backdrop of 1980s New York City, Vincent and his wife Cassie (Gaby Hoffmann) are devastated by the disappearance of their young son, Edgar.

Desperate to find Edgar, Vincent turns to his work as a children's television puppeteer. He becomes obsessed with creating  a monster puppet named Eric, based on one of Edgar's drawings, believing that if he can bring Eric to life on his show, Edgar will see it and return home.

As Vincent's obsession spirals into increasingly erratic behaviour, his mental state deteriorates, alienating  his family, colleagues, and the police. With the haunting puppet Eric as his only companion, he descends into a dangerous quest.

"Eric" tackles difficult themes of loss, mental health, and societal issues like the AIDS pandemic and institutionalised discrimination. Creator Abi Morgan (known for "The Iron Lady" and "Chernobyl") weaves a powerful and unsettling  narrative.
