Emma Stone, Nathan Fielder, and A24 to tackle chess scandal in upcoming movie 'Checkmate'
Fresh off the success of their critically acclaimed Showtime series "The Curse," Emma Stone, Nathan Fielder, and A24 are reportedly joining forces again for a new project set in the arena of professional chess.
A24 has secured the rights to "Checkmate," a film adaptation of Ben Mezrich's book proposal, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
The story dives into the "biggest scandal in the history of chess," the infamous 2022 match between Grandmasters Magnus Carlsen and Hans Niemann.
During the controversial game, Niemann was accused of cheating.
After a heated bidding war involving multiple studios and streamers, A24 clinched the deal with a substantial seven-figure offer.
Fielder is set to direct, with Stone and her husband Dave McCary producing under their banner, Fruit Tree.
The project continues the successful partnership between Stone, Fielder, and A24 that began with "The Curse," the dark comedy poised for Emmy recognition.
"Checkmate" also aligns with Fruit Tree's recent ventures, including an untitled Universal film starring Stone and directed by McCary.
