Two suspected terrorists affiliated with Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), identified as Adeel alias Saifullah Khorasani and Zain alias Asadullah Khorasani, were killed during a police encounter last night in Bahawalpur.
According to the Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) spokesman, the terrorists were apprehended a few days ago in connection with a murder case in Hasilpur and were under police custody.
The encounter occurred when the police brought the suspects to identify hidden weapons, and their accomplices ambushed the CTD team, opening fire.
In the ensuing exchange, the arrested terrorists were fatally shot by their own accomplices, while others managed to escape.
The slain terrorists were part of a four-member TTP network planning to assassinate Federal Minister Riaz Hussain Pirzada. Search operations are underway to apprehend the attackers who fled the scene.
The CTD spokesperson emphasized the department's commitment to ensuring a safe Punjab and urged citizens to report any terrorism-related information to the helpline.
In recent months, Punjab's border police posts have been targeted by terrorists, prompting authorities to enhance security measures and provide modern equipment and technology to law enforcement personnel.
