At least two terrorists were killed during an intelligence-based operation (IBO) conducted in the Dera Ismail Khan district of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, the military’s media wing said on Sunday.
According to statement issued by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), an intense exchange of fire took place between the security forces and terrorists.
It added that the security forces gunned down two terrorists, identified as Faheem Nawaz alias Gandapuri and Mohsin Nawaz.
"Weapons, ammunition and explosives were also recovered from [the] killed [men], who remained actively involved in numerous terrorist activities against the security forces as well as innocent civilians including targeted killings and extortion," the ISPR statement read.
“[A] sanitisation operation is being conducted to eliminate any other terrorist found in the area as [the] security forces of Pakistan are determined to wipe out the menace of terrorism from the country.”
In another operation conducted a day earlier, the security forces eliminated one terrorist and injured another in the Harnai district of Balochistan.
According to the ISPR, the terrorists attempted to halt passenger vehicles travelling on Sanjavi Road in Harnai.
“In a swift and decisive response, [the] security forces engaged the terrorists, leading to the elimination of one terrorist while another sustained injuries in a fire exchange.”
It must be noted that a day earlier, Sessions Judge Shakirullah Marwat, stationed in South Waziristan, was abducted by unidentified kidnappers near a village located at the junction of Tank and Dera districts on Dera Ismail Khan’s Tank Road.
Following the incident, the Peshawar High Court summoned the K-P chief secretary, the provincial police chief and the additional chief secretary and ordered them to take immediate as well as effective measures to recover the abducted judge.
After being summoned, the K-P police chief and additional chief secretary appeared before the court and informed the judges that all resources were being used for his recovery.
