Taylor Swift's Bandcamp domain seized by heavy metal singer
Taylor Swift fans expecting a collection of pop hits on the singer's Bandcamp page were met with a prank instead.
New Jersey musician Madison James, a member of the bands Ogbert the Nerd and No Good with Secrets, jokingly uploaded three original songs titled “Taylor Swift 1,” “Taylor Swift 2,” and “Taylor Swift 3” after securing the username taylorswift.bandcamp.com.
James, assured fans in a recent Us Weekly interview that the prank was lighthearted. “There’s no bigger meaning to it besides a one-off joke I made and the way it spiraled into a wider discussion and thing people are excited over has been as funny as it’s been interesting,” they said.
“I don’t mean any malice or have any deep-rooted beliefs in the deeper meaning of any of this. I’m just having a little fun for the sake of making my friends laugh and maybe learning how to write better riffs.”
This isn't James' first attempt at occupying a famous musician's Bandcamp domain. They also hold the usernames mychemicalromance.bandcamp.com, dualipa.bandcamp.com, daftpunk.bandcamp.com, and nickiminaj.bandcamp.com.
Currently, James is working with their band, No Good with Secrets, to release their second album, “Another Side,” on May 10th.
Meanwhile, pop iconTaylor Swift is gearing up to showcase songs from her new album, “The Tortured Poets Department,” on the upcoming European leg of “The Eras Tour” with Paramore starting in May. North American fans can catch her later this year with opener Gracie Abrams.
