RAWALPINDI:

A significant security breach has been uncovered within the Metro Bus Service operating between the twin cities of Rawalpindi and Islamabad, raising concerns about passenger safety.

Viral videos depicting passengers carrying weapons while aboard the buses have sparked alarm on social media platforms. Authorities have launched an investigation to determine how the weapon was smuggled onto the bus.

In one such viral video, a passenger on bus number 10 is seen openly carrying a weapon, prompting questions about the efficacy of security measures within the Metro Bus Service.

Concerns are mounting regarding the safety protocols in place, particularly given the sensitive nature of certain locations along the Rawalpindi-Islamabad route, which includes the Ministry of Defence and Pakistan Secretariat.

The Express Tribune reached out to officials of the Metro Bus Service Administration for comment. They assured that rigorous action will be taken against any security personnel found negligent in their duties, as well as any officials deemed responsible for the breach. An immediate investigation has been initiated to identify the individuals accountable for the lapse.

The incident underscores the imperative of maintaining robust security protocols within public transportation systems to prevent potential threats and safeguard passengers’ well-being.
