New exhibit spotlights budding artists

Themed as "Sirius" after the brightest star in the night sky, the exhibition captured huge visitors

ISLAMABAD:

A captivating exhibition at Gallery 6 has unveiled the artistic brilliance of five winners from the esteemed national biennial "Arjumand Painting Award 2023.”

The awards, initiated by Gallery 6 in 2015, strive to celebrate emerging Pakistani artists who exhibit exceptional skills and creativity in painting.

The exhibition not only provides a platform for accolades and acknowledgement but also serves as a springboard for artists demonstrating the potential to leave a significant mark on the art world. The recent 5th edition of the APA, held in November 2023, awarded cash prizes exceeding Rs1 million to the deserving winners.

Themed "Sirius" after the brightest star in the night sky, this exhibition features talented artists including Quratulain Dar, Safwan Bashir, Sadia Rathore, and Merit Prize recipients Bazil Habib and Imran Mughal.

Quratulain Dar, an MPhil scholar at NCA Lahore, explores gender dynamics and societal power structures in her art. Drawing from her experiences in Gujranwala, she creates compelling visuals that challenge societal norms.

Safwan Bashir, specialising in miniature painting, delves into humanity's evolving relationship with nature. His large-scale miniatures provoke contemplation on humanity's role in preserving the environment.

Sadia Rathore, inspired by her Baloch heritage, sheds light on societal issues like child labour in carpet weaving, showcasing technical prowess and advocating for social change.

Bazil Habib's emotional colour compositions invite viewers into a dialogue on human complexity, inspired by urban nightscapes and vibrant colours.

Imran Mughal, with a background in textile art, advocates multiculturalism and diversity through his fusion of folklore and pop art.

These artists, with their diverse inspirations and unique styles, epitomize the burgeoning talent in Pakistan's art scene.

Further, the exhibition also offers a glimpse into the depth, innovation, and thought-provoking narratives that define contemporary Pakistani art. The exhibition is open for visitors from 11am to 7pm until 01 May, inviting all to immerse themselves in the world of artistic expression and creativity.
