RAWALPINDI:

The administration has decided to set up seven cattle markets in the twin cities of Rawalpindi and Islamabad for Eidul Azha.

Traders from all over the country will bring sacrificial animals for sale in these markets. The business activities at these markets will also benefit various stakeholders, including government departments, transporters, service stations, hotels, and fodder sellers.

According to details, the largest cattle market of the twin cities will be established in Bhatta Chowk under the supervision of the Rawalpindi Cantonment Board. The contract for this market will be awarded on May 6-8. The contractor will receive Rs3,000 for the sale of cows, bulls and camels and Rs2,000 for goats and sheep.

On the other hand, the Islamabad Metropolitan Corporation will award contracts for six different locations in the federal capital on May 9 for setting up smaller cattle markets in other areas, including near Fecto Cement Factory, Sector I-15, Bhara Kahu, Lehtrar Road and Zia Masjid Express Highway.

The cattle markets will remain open for 13 days, where large animals like cows, buffaloes, and small animals like goats and sheep will be sold. The contractor will receive Rs500 per animal for large animals and Rs250 per animal for small animals. Additionally, a loading and unloading fee of Rs400 and Rs200 will be charged respectively.

The animals brought for sale in these markets will be examined by a team of doctors and support staff from the Livestock Department to ensure they are healthy and fit for sale. Sick animals will not be allowed to be sold in the markets.
