IHC clubs pleas against elections in Senate
The Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Friday clubbed a petition against the election of Senate chairman and deputy chairman with a previously filed petition of similar nature.
During a hearing, Chief Justice Aamer Farooq remarked that there was another petition of the same nature. The lawyer for the petitioner told the court that the previous plea was probably filed by the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) on the day of the election of the chairman and the deputy chairman.
The petitioner had said that the senate elections were postponed in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa. He added that as per the Constitution, the election of the Senate chairman and the deputy chairman could be held when the upper house of parliament was complete.
The petitioner requested the court to declare the April 9 election of the chairman and the deputy chairman as null and void. The court adjourned the hearing of the case after clubbing together the petitions.
