The Department of the Criminology, University of Peshawar (UoP), in collaboration with the police department, conducted a session on the theme of ‘Professional Policing Under International Standards of Human Rights and Humanitarian Law’ for the officers of newly merged tribal districts.
The activity supported by ICRC aimed at facilitating capacity-building sessions for mid-ranking field police officers to enhance their understanding of the risks associated with the use of force and define suitable strategies.
This may help avoid humanitarian consequences by replicating these best policing practices in field activities.
The course will enable participants to understand basic issues related to human rights and the use of force and address these issues professionally within domestic and international legal frameworks.
This five-day session for law enforcement officers integrates international standards related to the exercise of law enforcement officials’ powers and addresses issues related to crimes.
Participants were briefed on behavioral aspects related to criminals and law enforcement officials (LEOs) when dealing with suspects, the use of force under International human rights law (IHRL), criminal psychology, mental health, arrest and detention, search and seizure, public order management, Use of force, and related topics by the esteemed faculty from the various departments of the UoP.
They were engaged to enhance their knowledge and understanding of IHRL while dealing with OSVs by using force as per international law.
