PESHAWAR:

The Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) has postponed the hearing of Kamran Bangash's case, a former provincial minister of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), due to the absence of prosecution witnesses.

The case involves allegations of firing on police personnel. The court has now ordered the witnesses to be present at the next hearing, scheduled for February 10.

The former provincial minister was indicted in the case last week. He, however, refused to plead guilty which led to the start of his trial.

On Monday, although ATC Judge Asad Ali had begun the hearing, the prosecution witnesses failed to appear before the court and their statements couldn't be recorded.

According to the prosecution, a dramatic turn of events had unfolded on December 20, 2023 when the Chamkani police station had raided Kamran Bangash's guest house in an attempt to apprehend absconding PTI leader Murad Saeed.

Unfortunately, the situation had taken a violent turn with two police officers being injured after the police party was fired upon.

Police subsequently registered a case against Kamran Bangash and his associates on charges that included terrorism.

Following a thorough investigation, police had then submitted the challan in court, paving the way for the trial against Bangash to commence.

The next hearing of the case has been scheduled for February 10.

On January 12, ATC indicted PTI leader in the case of firing on a police party.

In October 2023, Bangash was taken into police custody.

The arrest occurred in close proximity to Bangash's residence, located near Peshawar's motorway toll plaza, shortly after authorities received information regarding his whereabouts. The operation was conducted in the presence of female police officers.
