Eminem confirms new album 'The Death of Slim Shady (Coup de Grâce)' for summer release
Eminem is officially back and ready to say goodbye to his infamous alter ego, Slim Shady.
The Grammy-winning rapper confirmed on Thursday that he's releasing his twelfth studio album, 'The Death of Slim Shady (Coup de Grâce)', this summer.
The announcement came via Instagram, where Eminem shared a teaser trailer that had originally aired prior to his appearance at the 2024 NFL Draft.
The album signals a significant shift, as Slim Shady has been a core part of Eminem's persona since the late 1990s.
This also marks his first full-length album since 2020's surprise release, 'Music to Be Murdered By'.
The trailer delivers a dramatic tone, with a fictional true crime reporter declaring the death of Slim Shady. "Through his complex and oft-criticized, tongue-twisting rhymes, the blonde anti-hero known as Slim Shady has had no shortage of enemies," the reporter intones. Fellow rapper 50 Cent weighs in: "He's not a friend, he's a psychopath." With this trailer, he has officially confirmed the end of his alter ego, Slim Shady.
Ending with a promise to explore the events surrounding Slim Shady's demise, the trailer builds suspense for the upcoming release.
The album news follows both a playful April Fools' Day joke by Eminem and March comments from Dr. Dre, who indicated on Jimmy Kimmel Live that an Eminem album was on the way in 2024.
