“The Tortured Poets Department”: Fans claim Taylor Swift copied Olivia Rodrigo’s “Get Him Back!”

Taylor Swift is facing criticism from Olivia Rodrigo’s fans after she released a song which contained similarities to one previously released by Rodrigo.

Swift's track “imgonnagetyouback” and Rodrigo's 2023 song “Get Him Back!” not only have the phrase 'get him back,' but the phrase has the same double meaning in both songs.

In both songs, the lyrics describe wanting to get back together with an ex as well as seeking revenge against them.

Similarly, Taylor wrote: “Whether I’m gonna be your wife or / Gonna smash up your bike, I haven’t decided yet / But I’m gonna get you back / Whether I’m gonna curse you out or / Take you back to my house, I haven’t decidеd yet / But I’m gonna get you back.”

Fans also remembered how Swift was credited on Rodrigo's song "Deja Vu" in 2021 when fans noticed its chords were like the ones in Swift's song "Cruel Summer."

Now, fans on Reddit have supported Olivia after noticing these similarities.

Reddit user, b00m_cat wrote, “I low key feel like Taylor is a little jealous of Olivia because Olivia is the cool girl Taylor desperately wants to be.”

Another user, Luna_Soma commented, “Even if she wrote this before Olivia’s song, she couldve left it off the album.” Continuing, “It sounds similar to Olivia’s song thematically and it doesn’t fit with the vibe of the album. It’s just shitty all around”
