KDA Sports Complex illegally leased out
Violation of court orders has been committed allegedly by the 'officers of the Karachi Development Authority (KDA)'. The KDA Sports Complex in Gulistan-e-Johar Block-14 has been converted into a commercial centre. The self-proclaimed 'Officers Association' unlawfully leased out the valuable amenity plot, for a gym and later, it was given on contract for net cricket. In addition to charging hefty membership fees for the gym, the entire ground was occupied for net cricket.
As per the details, the 'Officers Association' claiming to be the officers of KDA, has given the KDA Sports Complex and its building constructed on the amenity plot for commercial activities on contract.
The community members claim that the specified area is set aside for sports-related activities. However, the first building was illegally constructed, and it was eventually transformed into a gym. Despite being highlighted in the media, no steps have been taken to address the issue. Regrettably, the said amenity plot, originally meant for sports, has now been completely occupied for indoor net cricket, sponsored by the controversial association of the KDA.
According to senior officers of the KDA, the sports complex ground is currently being occupied by individuals claiming to be the part of a disputed officers association.
They mentioned that no election of the so called association has been conducted for the past 20 years, and no one has been elected as an officer of this association.
The officers emphasise that this association is tarnishing the reputation of KDA officers. They urge the higher authorities to take immediate notice.
The officers have stated that the commercial activities taking place on the amenity plot are deemed illegal and a grave infringement of court orders.
Additionally, it has been reported that Director General KDA, Syed Shujaat Hussain also has no information about the commercial activities taking place on the amenity plot in violation of court orders.
The local residents are expressing strong agitation and are demanding an immediate response from Sindh Local Government Minister Saeed Ghani and DG-KDA regarding the occupation of the sports ground and commercial activities. They also call for strict action against the officers involved.
Despite multiple attempts to contact Imran Ajaz, the official of the said association, for his stance, he did not respond to calls.
