Celine Dion opens up about stiff person syndrome
Céline Dion, the powerhouse vocalist, continues to navigate her stiff person syndrome (SPS) diagnosis with the hope for a return to performing.
In a recent interview with Vogue France, the 56-year-old singer candidly discussed the challenges of living with the rare neurological disease and her aspirations for the future.
While Dion can't pinpoint an exact timeline for her stage comeback, her determination remains steadfast. "I'm working very hard, and tomorrow will be even harder," she says, acknowledging the day-to-day struggles. "But there's one thing that will never stop, and that's the will. It's the passion. It's the dream. It's the determination."
Diagnosed in late 2022, stiff person syndrome affects Dion's central nervous system, causing debilitating muscle spasms. She's open about the journey of learning to live with the disease while pursuing the best possible physical and vocal health. Her physical therapy schedule reflects her commitment.
"I haven’t beat the disease," Dion admits, "but I have to learn to live with it." Her upcoming Prime Video documentary, I Am: Céline Dion, promises to chronicle these challenges and her inspiring resilience.
Despite the unknowns, Dion's spirit remains unyielding. "My goal is to see the Eiffel Tower again," she declares, her optimism shining through.
