IHC dismisses Bushra Bibi’s plea for shifting to jail

The Islamabad High Court (IHC) dismissed a petition filed by Bushra Bibi, wife of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan, seeking her transfer to Adiala Central Jail from her residence in Bani Gala due to the absence of her lawyers.

Justice Miangul Hasan Aurangzeb presided over Bibi’s petition. However, her lawyer was notably absent during the court session, which prompted the judge's frustration. He remarked that while the appellant sought relief, it was unclear if they genuinely pursued it.

Bibi, who has been convicted and sentenced in two cases, was placed under house arrest at her Bani Gala residence, and declared a sub-jail, instead of being transferred to Adiala Jail. Bibi challenged this decision in the IHC, requesting her relocation to Adiala Jail.

During the hearing, the judge expressed disappointment at the lawyer's absence, emphasizing the seriousness of the matter. He noted that the court's proceedings were not to be taken lightly or used for political agendas. Consequently, the court dismissed Bibi’s plea due to non-pursuance.

Subsequently, Bibi’s lawyer, Usman Riaz, arrived and apologized for the delay. He explained the reasons for his tardiness and requested the court to reinstate the petition. Additionally, he submitted a written request for the reinstatement of the appeal.
