Memon vows to take decisive action against drug dealers

Provincial minister expresses concern over the presence of narcotics in educational institutions

Sindh Minister for Information, Mass Transit, and Narcotics, Sharjeel Inam Memon, on Thursday, vowed to take decisive action to combat the scourge of drugs and protect the younger generation from its harmful grip.

Speaking at a high-level gathering today at Shahbaz Hall, Hyderabad, Memon expressed deep concern over the escalating presence of narcotics, especially within educational institutions.

He stressed the urgency of curbing this trend and directed Secretary Excise and IG Hyderabad, Tariq Dharejo, to launch coordinated operations against drug peddlers. He also urged them to keep the Sindh Information Department informed for effective media coverage to deter drug dealers.

In a bid to raise public awareness and encourage reporting of drug-related activities, he instructed the Information Secretary to initiate an advertising campaign within days.

This campaign will include a helpline number for reporting drug smuggling incidents, aimed at disrupting both major drug syndicates and their supply chains.

Memon emphasised the need for immediate and significant improvements in the situation, citing its critical implications for the future of the nation's youth.

During the meeting, IG Hyderabad, Tariq Dharejo, provided updates on the progress of anti-drug operations, underlining the importance of collective action in tackling this pressing issue.
