Margot Robbie ditches Barbie’s blonde look for new movie role
Margot Robbie is ready to switch things up after wrapping up her role in the highly anticipated "Barbie" movie.
On Monday, April 8, the 33-year-old actress was seen on the set of her upcoming film, "A Big Bold Beautiful Journey," sporting a fresh look – long honey-blonde hair with wispy bangs.
Collaborating with Colin Farrell, this marks Robbie's first major project since "Barbie." Plot details remain under wraps, but Variety describes the film as "an imaginative tale of two strangers and the unbelievable journey that connects them." Kogonada, known for directing Farrell in "After Yang," is helming the movie, penned by "The Menu's" Seth Reiss.
Robbie has a history of embracing full character transformations. "The actress previously wore curly, light brown hair for 2018's Mary Queen of Scots and dark-colored hair to film David O. Russell's Amsterdam in 2021."
Her dedication to her "Barbie" role was evident during her press tour, where she brought classic Barbie looks to life. "We're finding Barbie references from decades past and just doing it really for the big Barbie fans out there, people who are actually collecting those Barbies. We're hoping to get them excited. We're pairing Barbie references with great designers," Robbie told PEOPLE in July 2023.
Robbie's stylist, Andrew Mukamal, shared insights about their styling process in March 2024. "I had a board where every city was mapped out. We knew exactly which looks, which Barbies and which references were archival, and everything was very specific for each destination," he recalled. "That day, I had a huge studio in New York filled with everything Barbie and pink and fluffy and glittery that you could ever imagine. Margot and I marathoned through 50 or 60 outfits, and every 30 minutes, one of the brands would come and [help] tailor the outfit that I had been working on for months already."
