Hollywood stars stopped to watch the total solar eclipse as the incredible spectacle cast a dramatic shadow across the United States. This rare event created a 115-mile-wide path of darkness across 13 states. The next total solar eclipse visible in the US won't happen until 2044.
Stars like Kevin Bacon, Jason Derulo, and Jamie Lee Curtis excitedly documented their experience on social media. Here is a look at how the stars reacted to the rare celestial event:
Eclipse fail? Jason Derulo ditches safety glasses Fresh off his "Today" show performance with Michael Bublé, Jason Derulo hit the streets of New York City to experience the eclipse with comedic influencers Haley Kalil and Max Goodrich. He shared a photo of the trio gazing skyward, captioning it "I can see it without my glasses." Derulo was notably the only one not sporting protective eclipse glasses.
Kalil and Derulo also posted a playful Reel where she offers him a pair of glasses. He peeks directly at the sun without them, then winces with a pained sound. (Definitely a "don't try this at home" moment!)
"The Bondsman" & The Eclipse
Even amidst a busy filming schedule, Kevin Bacon made time to responsibly enjoy the solar eclipse. The actor took a break from "The Bondsman" to watch the event with co-stars Jennifer Nettles and Beth Grant, all wearing protective eyewear.
"Working hard on The Bondsman. #Eclipse," he wrote in the picture's caption.
Jamie Lee Curtis took a reflective approach to the eclipse While others were celebrating, the "Everything Everywhere All at Once" actor used the celestial event as an opportunity for a heartfelt wish. She shared a photo of herself gazing skyward through a window, hands clasped in prayer and sporting protective eclipse glasses. Her caption read: "Praying the eclipse can reset the world to one at peace!"
Nicky Hilton watched the eclipse with her daughters Lily-Grace and Teddy "A little after school solar eclipse experience. 🌘🌚🕶️," she captioned the image.
Jessica Biel: 'Get Outside NOW for the Eclipse!'
Jessica Biel couldn't contain her enthusiasm for a unique experience, sharing a PSA with her 14 million Instagram followers on Monday. "If you have your glasses… get out outside now!! 😎," she wrote alongside a selfie of the actress smiling as she wore eclipse glasses.
Jessica Alba took a moment of reflection during the eclipse
Sending a message of love and light to her followers. In a heartfelt post, she shared her thoughts on the celestial event's significance.
"Eclipses are all about new beginnings but this one has such an element of closure - about letting go so you can walk through a new portal and move into your power," she captioned the post. "Wherever you are, whether you may be able to see the eclipse or not, it will be felt energetically around the world - so I hope you take a moment to connect, fill yourself with love, meditate with the energy, let go of what no longer serves you."
Other stars worth a mention: "The Jersey Shore" star Nicole "Snooki" Polizzi shared photos of herself with her kids enjoying the celestial event on Monday. "See you in 20 years. Anyone know if the portal opened?" she playfully captioned the post.
Meanwhile, "The Office" alum Jenna Fischer shared a selfie and quipped, "Saw it. (Well, saw 45% of it.)."
And then there’s Drew Barrymore, who seized an opportunity to pray to the eclipse gods for … better electrical-cord organization.
Jimmy Fallon marked the 2024 total solar eclipse with an unforgettable celebration!
The 49-year-old host of The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon delivered a once-in-a-lifetime performance of Bonnie Tyler's iconic 1983 hit "Total Eclipse of the Heart" alongside the legendary band Heart.
