Iran has shown interest in increasing imports of agricultural products, particularly fruits, from Pakistan in a bid to deepen bilateral trade relations between the two neighbouring countries.
“We want to import more meat, rice and agricultural products, especially mangoes and kinnows, from Pakistan. Iranian people are very fond of Pakistani kinnows,” said Iranian Ambassador Dr Reza Amiri Moghaddam.
The ambassador met Federal Minister of Industries, Production and National Food Security Rana Tanveer Hussain to discuss bilateral cooperation and issues of mutual interests.
The envoy announced that the Iranian president was expected to sign a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on livestock quarantine and plant protection during his visit to Pakistan in the near future.
“Iran’s top leadership is in favour of increasing close cooperation with Pakistan in all fields,” the ambassador remarked and reiterated Tehran’s desire to strengthen relations with Islamabad in all areas of mutual interests.
He emphasised that both countries could also cooperate in the fertiliser industry. In addition, the Iranian minister of industry has invited Pakistan’s federal minister for industries to visit Tehran for participating in an upcoming meeting of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO).
“Both Pakistan and Iran are brothers and neighbours; they share a strong bond,” stressed Rana Tanveer Hussain while speaking at the meeting.
