Sacha Baron Cohen and Isla Fisher are splitting after two decades together. The actors revealed the news on Friday through a joint statement on their Instagram stories.
They metaphorically described their marriage as "a long tennis match lasting over 20 years" that they're finally ending. "We have always prioritized our privacy, and have been quietly working through this change.
"We forever share in our devotion and love for our children. We sincerely appreciate your respecting our family's wish for privacy."
Baron Cohen rose to fame in the 1990s with his satirical Ali G character, and was later known for his role as Borat.
Another of his movies, "The Dictator” was met with immense box office success.
The divorce news comes amidst a separate controversy for Baron Cohen. Last month, actress Rebel Wilson accused him of inappropriate behaviour on the set of the 2016 film Grimsby, which he vehemently denies.
Due to the timing of the divorce, many people were speculating that perhaps the split was linked to Rebel Wilson’s claims,
But a source close to the couple categorically denied it while talking to Us weekly,
“They have been living separate lives since last year but wanted to give this space and time for their children to be OK with this before the news came out and they got all this attention,” the source said, “They are notoriously very private people and wanted to focus on their family.”
