KARACHI:

The Special Investigation Unit (SIU) of the CIA Police has announced the arrest of four suspects believed to be involved in the recent killing of a woman in the metropolis.

“On March 27, some people forcibly entered a residence in Pirabad just minutes before Iftar and opened fire. A woman named Zarkhala was killed, while her daughter Marwah sustained injuries in the attack,” SSP CIA Adeel Chandio told media persons at his office.

Chandio identified the arrested suspects as Raqib Shah, Naseeb Shah, Zad Gul, and Nazmin, all hailing from Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa. He revealed that the suspects are allegedly hitmen, hired by a relative of the victim.

The intended target was purportedly seven persons; however, a malfunction in the assailants' handgun prevented further casualties as a bullet got jammed in the chamber during the attack. The suspects, initially identified as day-labourers, confessed to receiving Rs800,000 for carrying out the murder.

Chandio said that the Karachi police chief has assigned him the task of cracking down on extortionists and street criminals. He indicated that the SIU currently operates with a force of 275 personnel.
