Lauren London honours Nipsey Hussle on 5th death anniversary
On the solemn occasion marking five years since the murder of Nipsey Hussle, Lauren London, the late rapper's partner, took to Instagram to share a heartfelt tribute that resonated with the symbolism of the date coinciding with Easter Sunday this year.
The actress and model, 39, reflected on the significance of March, a month that she finds particularly challenging, and the poignant alignment of the anniversary with a day symbolizing resurrection and renewal.
In her post, London wrote, "If you know me, you know March is always tough for me. 31 days of holding my breath. This day decided to fall on Easter Sunday this 2024. Interesting... considering your name #GodWillRise."
Hussle, born Ermias Joseph Asghedom on August 15, 1985, carried a name of African origin meaning "God will rise."
The emotional post drew support from across the entertainment industry, with celebrities like Saweetie, La La Anthony, and Kehlani offering their condolences and remembrances in the comments section.
Nipsey Hussle, a visionary and community activist, was tragically killed outside his store, The Marathon Clothing, in Los Angeles on March 31, 2019. In February 2023, Eric Holder Jr. was sentenced to 60 years to life in prison for Hussle's murder, culminating a legal battle that followed the rapper's death.
Hussle's legacy extends far beyond his music. He was a fervent advocate for his community, investing in neighborhood schools, supporting STEM education, and playing a significant role in the Destination Crenshaw project, which celebrates the history and culture of Black people in the iconic Los Angeles neighborhood.
In recognition of his contributions and on what would have been his 37th birthday, Los Angeles declared August 15 as Nipsey Hussle Day in 2022. The declaration was made at the ceremony unveiling Hussle's star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
