Who will play Juliet opposite Tom Holland's Romeo?
The Jamie Lloyd Company has unveiled the full cast for its highly anticipated West End production of Shakespeare’s timeless tragedy, "Romeo & Juliet," with Tom Holland taking on the role of Romeo and newcomer Francesca Amewudah-Rivers as Juliet.
The production is set to light up the Duke of York’s Theatre with its premiere on Thursday, May 23, following previews beginning Saturday, May 11, and will run until Saturday, August 3.
Tom Holland, best known for his portrayal of Spider-Man, expressed his excitement about the project. “Beyond excited to announce our cast for Romeo and Juliet,” he told Deadline, “I can’t wait to get started and I know we’ll create something really special together.”
Francesca Amewudah-Rivers, who will be making her major theatrical debut as Juliet, shared her anticipation for the role. “I’m excited to bring a fresh energy to this story alongside Tom, and to welcome new audiences to the theatre,” she told Deadline.
The cast is further bolstered by the talents of Freema Agyeman as Nurse, Michael Balogun as Friar, Tomiwa Edun as Capulet, and a host of other notable actors who will bring the tragic tale of star-crossed lovers to life.
Set against the backdrop of Verona, "Romeo & Juliet" is a tale of love, conflict, and reconciliation that has resonated with audiences for centuries. This new production promises to offer a fresh take on the classic story, with its blend of established and emerging talent.
