Resham wants Rahat Fateh Ali to receive respect ‘more than before’ after apology for assault video

Actor insisted that singer has always amplified Pakistan’s positive image

Pakistani veteran actor Resham has recently praised singer Rahat Fateh Ali Khan for his exemplary apology gesture amidst controversies surrounding the singer. Rahat, who has garnered global fame for his singing talent, has faced several controversies in recent years, including allegations of tax evasion and involvement in a public altercation.

The latter quickly ignited widespread public outrage after a viral video depicted the singer assaulting a personal employee. In response to the escalating controversy, Rahat released a video attempting to address the incident before following it up with an apology. As per Resham, the singer’s responsible conduct following the scandal warrants appreciation.

On the chatshow Mind Na Karna, the Gunjal actor emphasised the importance of not trolling the singer despite his past mistakes. "He is such a big name in our country, even outside Pakistan. Rahat Fateh Ali Khan has always amplified Pakistan’s positive image," Resham stated during the interview.

"One thing about Rahat Jee that I liked immensely is that he first, apologised to God, then to the person he wronged, and then he apologised to all of us. I cannot tell you how much this gesture has elevated my respect for Rahat Fateh Ali Khan. Very few people own up to their mistake,” she maintained.

The actor went on to say, “We should give Rahat Fateh Ali Khan more respect and love than before.” Despite the controversies, Rahat was honoured with the prestigious Hilal e Imtiaz and Sitara-i-Imtiaz this month, which reignited criticism due to assault allegations.

The viral video, which quickly went viral on various social media platforms in January, sparked heated discussions about the responsibility of public figures and the severity of the alleged actions. However, in his subsequent video message, Rahat presented his employee, Naveed Hasnain, and Naveed's father, Nafees Ahmed, and asserted that their relationship was one based on mutual respect and affection.

“The videos you’re watching are a personal matter between a mentor and his pupil…When a pupil does something well, we show them appreciation. In case of a mistake, we punish them as well,” he stated in the video. Despite Rahat's attempts to downplay the incident as a disciplinary matter between a 'mentor and his pupil,' public sentiment remains deeply critical.
