KARACHI:

As street crime surge continues amid an abject police failure to maintain law and order in the metropolitan city, citizens have resorted to carry weapons for self-defence.

The owner of an LPG filling shop fatally shot a suspected bandit who was fleeing after allegedly robbing him at his shop in Orangi Town No 10. An accomplice of the dead bandit escaped as local residents and other shopkeepers generously applauded the shooter.

As per reports, the fatal shooting occurred when two robbers tried to flee after looting the LPG shop near Al-Fateh cemetery, within the jurisdiction of Mominabad police station. The shop owner, armed with a licensed handgun, opened fire on the fleeing robbers, killing one of them on the spot. His accomplice fled the scene, abandoning their motorcycle.

The body of the dead robber, who appeared to be in his early thirties, was shifted to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital where police said that nothing was found on the deceased that could help identify him. Police transferred the body to the mortuary of a local charity following medico-legal formalities.
