KARACHI:

Another group of robber cops has come to fore in the crime-plagued city where the difference between the law enforcers and lawbreakers is fast diminishing.

Following an incident of a police party robbing a house of a trader, a police squad was accused of snatching Rs118 million from a citizen in the limits of Sachal police station.

As per the complainant, four days ago, a patrol squad stopped and searched his vehicle near the Lyari Expressway exit at Sohrab Goth in the limits of the Sachal police station.

The patrol police took the people in the car hostage,  snatched Rs118 million in the car and left

Sindh IG Rafat Mukhtar Raja took notice of the robbery by the police and ordered East Zone DIG Azfar Mahesar to investigate the matter, after which a robbery case was registered against unidentified persons at Sachal police station and the investigation was launched.

Police sources say that  SSP Irfan Bahadur has been entrusted with the responsibility to recover the loot.

A senior police officer on condition of anonymity has said that investigations suggest that police officers and officials of Zaman Town police station of Korangi district were involved in the robbery.

He said that in a strange twist of events, police of one district went to raid on the police of another district. On Thursday, East Zone police mobiles came and surrounded the Zaman Town police station.

The officer said that officials of the inquiry committee questioned Zaman Town SHO Rao Rafiq and recorded his statement.

Meanwhile, police were searching for the police official Karam and a private henchman of the SHO named Zafar.

The police officer said that the East Zone Police investigation, SHO Rao Rafiq had handed over a mobile of Zaman Town police station, allocated for PSL security, to Karam and Zafar.

Meanwhile, the driver of the vehicle of the robbery victims informed Zafar about the cash and the route he was taking.

Subsiquently, Zafar, Karam and SHO Rao Rafiq intercepted the vehicle near Sohrab Goth Expressway, and robbed Rs118 million and escaped.

An officer, who is part of the investigation team, said that the SHO is expressing ignorance about the Zaman Town incident but the mobile phones of a policeman named Karam and a person named Zafar are switched off. Their houses have also been raided, but the police have not been able to find any significant success.

After the identity of the alleged dacoity police party, DIG East Azfar Mahesar, SHO Sachal Ghulam Hussain Korai and the complainant have appeared before IG Sindh and informed him regarding all the situation while the police mobile used in the illegal raid has also been identified.
