Two arrested for aerial firing at Seaview after video goes viral on social media

KARACHI:

A video showcasing college students engaging in reckless aerial firing surfaced on social media, prompting swift action from the authorities. Karachi Police South Zone DIG, Asad Raza, took immediate cognisance of the incident and directed the Sahil police station to initiate legal proceedings.

Following intensive investigation, the Sahil police managed to apprehend two suspects, identified as Bilal Akhund and Jabbar Khan, while continuing efforts to capture others involved. The detainees are currently under interrogation, with further raids underway to locate and detain additional culprits.

The uproar stemmed from a Batch Bunk gathering organized by college students in DHA Phase VIII, where attendees brazenly brandished firearms and indulged in irresponsible behavior. DIG South, Syed Asad Raza, reiterated the stringent prohibition against such flagrant displays of weaponry, emphasizing the necessity for swift law enforcement action.

Reports suggest that Batch Bunk events, a tradition among DHA schools and colleges, occasionally witness instances of juvenile delinquency. The event in question was orchestrated via WhatsApp invitations, with the ensuing viral videos aiding law enforcement in identifying the perpetrators. Additional measures, including surveillance footage analysis through Command and Control and Safe City cameras, are underway to address the situation comprehensively.

In parallel, authorities have reached out to the college administration, urging them to enforce disciplinary measures against students involved in organizing the event. Karachi Police reaffirmed their commitment to curbing incidents of aerial firing, emphasizing the need to deter such actions that sow fear and endanger public safety.
