Indian legend Mithun Chakraborty suffers brain stroke, says media
Mithun Chakraborty was admitted to the emergency unit of Apollo Hospital in Kolkata on Saturday, February 10, after feeling unwell, reported The Indian Express. The hospital later issued a medical bulletin, and according to Mithun's elder son Mimoh, shared in an update that "He is 100% fine, and it's a routine check-up."
The statement that was issued by Apollo Hospital read, “Shri Mithun Chakraborty (73), National Award-winning actor, was brought to the Emergency Department of Apollo Multispeciality Hospitals, Kolkata, around 9.40 am with complaints of weakness in the right upper and lower limbs. Necessary laboratory and radiology investigations were carried out including an MRI of the brain."
The statement further read, "He has been diagnosed with an Ischemic Cerebrovascular Accident (Stroke) of the brain. Presently, he is fully conscious, well-oriented and has consumed a soft diet. Shri Chakraborty is being further evaluated by a team of doctors including a neuro-physician, cardiologist and a gastroenterologist.”
Mithun, a prominent figure in the film industry since 1976, has received numerous prestigious honours, including the National Award. Known for his roles in iconic films like Disco Dancer, Jung, Prem Pratigyaa, Pyar Jhukta Nahin, and Mard, Mithun's contributions have left a lasting impact.
Recently honoured as one of the Padma Bhushan Awardees for 2024, Mithun expressed his joy and gratitude through his son Namashi's social media. He shared, “I am very happy, filled with joy; the feeling of receiving such an honour, having achieved everything, is something I cannot express. When such a significant recognition comes after a lot of hardships, the feeling is something else,” Mithun said.
“Thank you to everyone for giving so much love and respect. And I am dedicating this award to all my fans in India and around the world. To all those who have given me selfless love, to my well-wishers, I am dedicating this to everyone. Thank you for giving me so much love and respect,” the actor added.
In July 2023, Mithun's mother, Santirani Chakraborty, passed away in Mumbai due to geriatric issues. Mithun's father, Basantokumar Chakraborty, also passed away in April 2020 at the age of 95 due to kidney failure.
