Demolition of illegal building ordered

The Sindh High Court (SHC) has ordered the Sindh Building Control Authority (SBCA) to demolish an illegally constructed sevenstorey building in Lyari and submit a compliance report within a month.

Appearing before a twomember bench, headed by Justice Nadeem Akhtar, the petitioner's counsel highlighted that a violation had occurred with the construction of a seven-storey building on Plot No. 844 in Street No. 8 Noorani Mohalla.

Justice Akhtar voiced his frustration, questioning the SBCA's lack of action over the past two years. "The SBCA has done nothing in two years apart from just issuing notices? Despite the clear illegality of the entire building, no action was taken during the past two years?"

The SBCA director acknowledged the presence of around 400 illegal buildings in Lyari, highlighting the impracticality of inspecting each one.

The court remarked that the SBCA should acknowledge its limitations, stating, "You should state that you cannot perform your duties so that we can issue a proper order."

The lawyer representing the SBCA pleaded a 30-day period to vacate the building and take necessary action.
