Should be clear we're promoting a film, not a drama: Usama Khan opens up on fashion choices
In a recent appearance on Ahmad Ali Butt's show Mind Na Karna, Yumna Zaidi and Usama Khan engaged in a candid conversation about film promotions and Usama's distinctive dressing style. The host inquired about Usama's flamboyant attire for movie promotions, to which Usama responded by highlighting the need for a distinct promotional look to differentiate from typical drama appearances.
Usama emphasised the importance of signalling that they are promoting a movie and not a drama, advocating for a unique style that captures the essence of the film. He stated, "If you wear the same clothes in which you've been seen in dramas, how will people know that you're promoting a movie? It shouldn't feel like we're promoting a drama, it should be evident that we're promoting a movie."
When asked if Yumna was jealous of his eccentric wardrobe, she responded with humour, expressing her enjoyment of the variety. "No, I enjoy it!" she shared with a laugh. Furthermore, the actor shared an incident where Usama, known for his vibrant outfits, wore plain clothes. Intrigued, she asked why, and Usama explained his apprehension about potential teasing in public, particularly during their visit to Faisalabad. "One day, Usama was wearing regular clothes - totally plain, like in meetings," recalled Yumna. "I asked Usama if he is yet to get ready. He said no. I asked him why. He said that we're going to Faisalabad, and anyone from the public can say anything.:
Usama elaborated on his humorous perspective, stating that Faisalabad is known for its wit, and he wanted to avoid any playful banter from the public. "Faisalabad is quite humorous. I thought what if someone teases me in public?" stated Usama innocently. The conversation provided insights into the actors' approach to film promotion, showcasing their lighthearted camaraderie and Usama's penchant for unconventional fashion choices.
Recently, Usama's fashion choices became a point of criticism. After a local media outlet shared an Instagram post praising Usama’s recent fashion looks as “the fresh face and hip hero Lollywood was waiting for,” the actor’s admirers took to the replies to relay their resounding agreement. The post commended Usama for “bringing a wave of charisma to the silver screen.”
Citing his disapproval, fashion guru Tabesh Khoja put his critical two cents in the replies with a sardonic “Matlab kuch bhi,” calling the post’s appreciation of Usama far-fetched. The stylist completed the dismissive reply was a rolling eyes emoji further underscoring how unimpressed he was. Stylist Rao Ali Khan seemed to hold a similar sentiment and slammed the actor’s style as “Govinda and Ranveer Singh rebranded in China.” Screengrabs of these replies circulated widely on the microblogging platform X (formerly Twitter) with both fashion aficionados and fans of Usama slamming Rao and Tabesh for trolling the actor.
