Fuel scam plagues operations at KWSB
Substantial irregularities in the use of fuel within the Karachi Water and Sewerage Corporation (KWSB) have been exposed, with allegations of fuel theft amounting to millions of rupees, resulting in significant losses to the government.
According to sources, vehicles equipped with jetting machines, intended for cleaning sewage lines, are reportedly left unused while the fuel allocated for their operation is being misappropriated.
It is reported that the KWSB possesses over 100 jetting machines for cleaning purposes, out of which only 50 are actively used, while the rest are left idle in the workshop. Allegedly, corrupt officials within the KWSB are involved in the illicit sale of fuel originally intended for these parked vehicles. Sources further reveal that various corrupt practices are prevalent in different departments of the KWSB.

The fuel management system is allegedly overseen by Workshop Division Superintendent Engineer Ayaz Tunio and Executive Engineer Shafqat Hussain Mangan, who are reportedly operating under the patronage of the Managing Director (MD) of the water board.
The situation not only compounds sewage problems in the city but also results in substantial financial losses for the government.
Complaints from citizens regarding sewage issues often lead to delayed responses or the dispatch of only a few vehicles, with alleged corrupt officers deliberately hindering the process.
