RAWALPINDI:

In preparation for the upcoming general elections on February 8, a new “Election Control Room” has been established at the Mini Sports Complex near Liaquat Bagh. The primary aim is to ensure foolproof security and transparency during the electoral process.

Ramsha Javed, the Additional Deputy Commissioner of Finance and Planning, has been appointed as the head of the control room, as per the formal notification, a copy of which is available with The Express Tribune.

The control room, a collaborative effort of the District Election Commissioner, Deputy Commissioner, and Deputy Police Officer, will operate around the clock from January 27 to February 10, ensuring constant vigilance.

To manage the continuous operations effectively, the staff has been organised into three shifts. Representatives from various crucial entities, including the 111 Brigade, district administration, special branch, bomb disposal squad, civil defence, Rawalpindi Development Authority (RDA), Water and Sanitation Agency (WASA), education department, health municipalities, Sui Northern Gas Company Limited (SNGPL), and Islamabad Electric Supply Company (IESCO) will be present at the control room.

Security preparations will see a joint effort by the police, Rangers, and Army troops, conducting a security flag march in Rawalpindi starting February 1. This will involve police mobile and the dolphin force. All relevant personnel, including the in-charge, have assumed their designated roles.

The Election Control Room is equipped with CCTV cameras to monitor the entire district, ensuring enhanced surveillance.
