ECP declines Fehmida Mirza’s request

ECP said that electoral symbol could not be allotted to two candidates of one political party at same time

ISLAMABAD:

The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on Thursday declined a requested from Dr Fehmida Mirza, a candidate for the National Assembly constituency of NA-223, Badin, to allot her the electoral symbol of the star of the Grand Democratic Alliance (GDA).

In the written decision, the ECP said that an electoral symbol could not be allotted to two candidates of one political party at the same time.

It added that the GDA’s symbol had been allotted to its candidate Hussam Mirza in NA-223, who was still in the fray and had not withdrawn his nomination papers.

The poll supervisor said that the symbols could not be changed at this stage, instructing the returning officer concerned to revise Form-33 and add the name of Dr Fahmida Mirza as an independent candidate.
