Young voters to play crucial role in Hyderabad polls

Number of voters in the age group of 36 to 45 is the highest

HYDERABAD:

A  significant  number  of  voters are anticipated  to exercise their  democratic right in the upcoming general elections in Hyderabad. The  district,  with a total  population of  2,432,540  based on the 2023  census, holds three seats in the National  Assembly and six seats in the Sindh Assembly.

As of January 3, the Election Commission of  Pakistan  (ECP) reported a  total of  1,225,147 registered voters in Hyderabad district. Among them,  662,713 are male, and  506,434  female,  with a male-to-female  ratio of  54.9%  to  45.91%,  indicating a 9% higher participation of male voters.

Significantly,  the  age group  between  36 and 45  years  boasts  the  highest  number  of voters, surpassing  305,000  mark. Young voters, aged 18  to  25  years,  are  also  expected  to  play a crucial    role in electing their  representatives, with more than 172,000  participants.

Moreover, a  substantial number of  voters, 100,024  in  total, aged  65  years  and  above, are set to take part in the electoral process. With the election schedule announced, the voters  list  is  now  frozen, and  the  registration of  new  voters or changes to existing voter information has been locked.

Breaking  down  the  age demographics further,  the district has 172,185 voters aged between 18 to 25, comprising  102,998  male   and 69,187 female voters.  The age group of 26 to 35  years accounts for 291,316   voters, including  162,870  males and 128,446 fe- males.

Voters aged 46 to 55  years  total  205,560,  with   108,993  males  and  96,567   females. In the 56 to 65 age group,  there are 125,918 vot- ers,  with  65,996  males and  5 9 , 9 2 2  females.  Importantly, 124,527 voters  above the age of 65 will exercise  their  right  to  vote,  with 57,108 males and  67,419 females. As  the  electoral  process  unfolds,  Hyderabad  district  anticipates  a  diverse  and  active  participation from its residents, reflecting  a robust  engagement with the democratic  process
