KARACHI:

The Sindh High Court (SHC) has ordered the city administration to remove all political banners from flyovers, pedestrian bridges, hoardings and signboards along the highways across the metropolitan city. The court further ordered the administration to take legal action against any political figures involved in the placement of such activities.

The orders were given by a two-member SHC bench, headed by Justice Nadeem Akhtar, while hearing a petition concerning the ban on billboards and hoardings in public spaces within the city.

“We must not allow our city to turn into a jungle; instead, fulfill your duty,” Justice Akhtar remarked while directly addressing the representatives from the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) and Cantonment Boards.

The Cantonment Board lawyer acknowledged challenges faced during the enforcement of court orders, prompting the court to express strong dissatisfaction and suggested that the cantonment should shut down if it cannot function effectively.
