KARACHI:

The Sindh High Court (SHC) on Saturday ordered blocking of the national identity cards (NICs) of the director and deputy director of the Sindh Building Control Authority (SBCA) for their failure to stop illegal construction in the central district.

The court gave the order while hearing a petition against unauthorised constructions in central district. The court, while expressing dissatisfaction with the lack of action against the illegal constructions, remarked that SBCA officers, in their report, acknowledged the construction of a four-storey building under the pretext of ground-plus-one permission.

According to SBCA officials, the fourth floor of the building has partially collapsed, leading to a notice for the residents to vacate the vulnerable structure. Moreover, letters have been sent to relevant institutions requesting the disconnection of electricity and gas services to the building.

The bailiff’s reports revealed that the construction was ongoing when the court notice had been issued. Despite the notice, the construction was completed, and occupants moved in, indicating alleged connivance between SBCA officers and builders in illegal activities.
