Paralysed youth’s family protests against police brutality
The South Zone police chief DIG Asad Raza has formed an inquiry committee to investigate an alleged police encounter that took place near Malakand Cemetery, Metroville, SITE area.
DIG Raza had directed Keamari district police chief SSP Arif Aslam Rao to investigate the incident and bring out all facts and submit the inquiry report within three days.
However, family has expressed no confidence in SSP Rao, after which investigation of the incident was handed over to SP Lyari Haseeb Javed. SITE police claimed to have arrested Mohammad Abbas in an injured condition along with his accomplice Ibrahim during an alleged encounter took place near Malakand graveyard, Metroville on January 4.
Protest against encounter
Family of injured has claimed the police encounter as fake. A large number of family members and local residents of injured Muhammad Abbas protested outside the Karachi Press Club on Monday evening.

The protesters carried banners with slogans like police in plainclothes unacceptable stop police brutalities. The protesters demanded the immediate arrest of the officials who left Abbas, an 18-year-old student paralyzed for life in a fake police encounter. The protesters demanded justice from the Chief Justice, IG Sindh and Karachi Police and other important figures.
Police statement
On the other hand, a statement and a video statement of arrested injured accused including his accomplice have also been released by the spokesperson of District Keamari. The statement said that at 5:20 pm on January 4, a police party on a motorcycle patrolling for crime control near Malakand Cemetery Metroville signalled to stop two suspicious persons on a motorcycle. Motorcycle riding accused opened fire on police party and tried to escape. Police party retaliated under self-defence and one accused was injured while both the accused were arrested.
