Shah Rukh Khan - first Indian actor to rake in INR25 billion in a single year with his films

With Pathaan, Jawan and Dunki, the actor has set a new record

In the world of Indian cinema, Shah Rukh Khan has once again proven his unrivalled star power. The year 2023 marked a triumphant comeback for the Bollywood superstar as he delivered not one, but three blockbuster hits – Pathaan, Jawan, and Dunki.

What makes this achievement even more extraordinary is that these films collectively grossed an astounding Indian Rs2,500 crores (INR 25 billion) before the closing of the year. As per trade analyst Ramesh Bala who made the announcement on Twitter, this makes Shah Rukh Khan the first Indian actor to reach such a monumental milestone in a single calendar year.

Currently, Shah Rukh's third release, Dunki, directed by Rajkumar Hirani, is soldiering on at the global box office. As per Hindustan Times, a day after crossing the coveted INR 400 crore (INR 4 billion) mark globally, the film is expected to gross INR 200 crore (INR 2 billion) at the domestic box office.

Shah Rukh's journey to the INR 25 billion club began with the release of Pathaan in January 2023. The film, which marked his return to the big screen after a four-year hiatus, featured an ensemble cast including John Abraham, Deepika Padukone, and Dimple Kapadia.

Following the early triumph, Jawan hit the screens on September 7, showcasing Shah Rukh in an action-packed avatar. Directed by Atlee, the film boasted a stellar cast including Nayanthara, Vijay Sethupathi, Sanya Malhotra, Priyamani, and Ridhi Dogra. 'Jawan' continued the winning streak, proving Shah Rukh Khan's versatility as an actor.

Closing the year on a high note, Shah Rukh’s Dunki, released on December 21 and still running in Indian cinemas, features an ensemble cast and narrates the emotional journey of a group of friends seeking a new life abroad.
