KARACHI:

An indecent video of Shah Abdul Latif University (SALU) Khairpur Vice Chancellor Dr Khalil Ibupoto doing rounds on social media has created uproar in the academic circles of Sindh.

Federation of All Pakistan Universities Academic Staff Association (FAPUASA) Central General Secretary and President of Shah Latif University Teachers Association Professor Dr Akhtar Ali Ghamro and

FAPUASA Secretary Professor Dr Hassamuddin Sheikh brought this issue to the attention of the Caretaker Chief Minister Justice (retd) Maqbool Baqar and has demanded an immediate investigation and removing the VC Ibupoto from his post.

Dr Ghamro told The Express Tribune that the deans of the university have said that if the chief minister does not take immediate notice of the matter, they will not participate in any meeting to be held under the chairmanship of the vice-chancellor from Monday.

The deans of the various departments of the varsity are also writing letters to the Chief Minister House on Monday.

Ghamro further said that the alleged video of the VC came to light three days ago, after which the situation of the university was tense.

“We have requested CM Sindh to conduct an impartial investigation into the matter and during the investigation, remove Dr Ibupoto from his post,” he said.

In a letter written to CM Baqar, the controlling authority of public universities of the province, the FAPUASA president and general secretary stated that he should take serious and immediate notice of the alleged inappropriate- ate video of the vice-chancellor, because from this video, the reputation of Shah Abdul Latif University Khairpur has been seriously damaged.

This viral video has raised serious questions on the leadership of the universities which is also a serious threat to the reputation of the institutions. This video is shocking to the students, teachers and general public and everyone has serious concerns about it.

It should be noted that this is the last year of the term of office of the Ibupoto. His tenure will end in October 2024. He was appointed on the recommendation of the search committee during the previous Sindh government. When The Express Tribune contacted the Vice-Chancellor to find out his stand on the matter, he sent a message to contact the PRO of the university.

When contacted, the PRO of the university said, "The Vice-

Chancellor in his ongoing video message has termed the video as fake and has said that the video was created using technology.”

The PRO further said that many people from inside and outside the university were involved in this, who are asking the vice chancellor to accommodate them in the style of the previous administration. He said that the Vice-Chancellor has also filed an application in the FIA Cybercrime against all those involved.

On the other hand, an attempt was made to contact the Sindh Chief Minister‘s spokesperson, Rashid Chana to know the position of the Sindh government in this regard, but no response was received from him.
