Art aficionados pay homage to Zia Mohyeddin

Iconic voice artiste and actor passed away in February

LAHORE:

A special ceremony was organized in Lahore to commemorate iconic actor, voice artiste and host Zia Mohyeddin. A large number of his close relatives, friends and literature-loving citizens participated in the ceremony.

Mohyeddin, who is renowned for presenting literary works through voice acting, would regularly spend the evening of December 31st organizing literary events in Lahore. His tradition of organizing a grand ceremony continued for 35 years.

To maintain the tradition, a ceremony was organized at the local institute located on Ferozepur Road on Sunday. Writers, artists and personalities belonging to different schools of thought participated in the event.

Naveed Riaz, the organizer of the event, said that Zia Mohyeddin brought the country respect from all over the world through his services to art and literature. A documentary his was shown at the ceremony and participants of the event paid tribute to the artistic and literary services of Zia Mohyeddin in a magnificent manner.

Zia Mohyeddin was a literary personality whose style of reading and speaking was renowned the world over. Born on June 20th 1933 in Faisalabad, his father Khadim Mohyeddin had the honour of writing dialogue for Pakistan’s first film Teri Yaad.

A graduate of Government College Lahore, Zia traveled to Britain to pursue education and art, where he was associated with the Royal Academy of Theater and Arts. He trained in the art of voice acting and acting at the Royal Academy of Theater Arts. When he returned to Pakistan, he hosted The Zia Mohyeddin Show on PTV.

In 1962, he got an opportunity to work in the film Lawrence of Arabia, so he gave a memorable performance in this film as well. Later, he acted in several theater plays and several Hollywood films.
