Schoolchildren to receive robotics education

Modern Robotics laboratory will be set up in Dera Ghazi Khan

MULTAN:

The South Punjab School education department has joined hands with UNICEF and ROBOTMEA to educate and train sixth, seventh and eighth-class students on Robotics under the STEAM education system.

STEAM stands for science, technology, engineering, arts and mathematics and is expected to enable students in government schools to experience modern education that can build them into analytical and critical thinkers, something missing in the existing school education system.

Once operational in eight schools in Dera Ghazi Khan and Rajanpur, the students will be imparted training and education on basic mathematical elements linked to Robotics, engineering and the arts. A modern Robotics laboratory will be set up in Dera Ghazi Khan where 6th, 7th, and 8th grade students will develop projects with the help of laptop computers and other electronic devices, said an official release issued on Thursday. The initiative is expected to launch next month in four schools in Rajanpur and four others in Dera Ghazi Khan.

UNICEF and Robotmea officials visited the education secretariat and met with Secretary for School Education South Punjab Dr Ubaidullah Khokhar, who emphasised the importance of STEAM education.
