Seems like Ranbir Kapoor might find himself in the middle of yet another controversy. A complaint filed at Mumbai's Ghatkopar police station targeted the Bollywood actor and his family, alleging the infringement of religious sentiments in a Christmas celebration video, reported The Indian Express.
Sanjay Tiwari, the complainant, highlighted in the complaint that the video showed the actor pouring liquor on a cake and igniting it while chanting "Jai Mata Di."
Tiwari argued that Hinduism traditionally invokes the fire god before other deities, and Kapoor's family using intoxicants during their celebration of a different religious festival while marking another religion’s festival was deliberate and disrespectful.
He claimed that the act of setting the cake on fire followed by the chant 'Jai Mata Di' deeply hurt his religious sentiments. No formal First Information Report (FIR) has been lodged in connection with this incident so far.
A video posted on the official Instagram account of the entertainment magazine Filmfare showed a man seemingly pouring liquor on a cake, subsequently lit by Ranbir alongside Alia Bhatt while saying 'Jai Mata Di.' Filmfare clarified that the clip was from the Kapoor family's Christmas lunch.
“Ranbir Kapoor adds to the festive cheer with his 'Jai Mata Di' exclamation while illuminating the cake during the Kapoor family's Christmas lunch!” read the caption accompanying the Instagram post.
Ranbir had previously made headlines for his recent offering, Sandeep Reddy Vanga's misogynistic film, Animal. Apart from that, the Bollywood couple also made it to the news after they publicly showed their toddler, Raha's face for the first time ahead of the family Christmas lunch.
