Two slain in Vehari police ‘encounter’

Accomplices of deceased remain at large

VEHARI:

In a gun battle involving four armed suspects and the police, two suspects were killed while their accomplices fled under the cover of darkness. Special teams have been assembled to pursue and apprehend the fugitives.

According to a police spokesperson on Wednesday, the encounter occurred near Chowk Shah Junaid within the jurisdiction of Gaggo police station, where two suspects allegedly shot Dr Naveed, inflicting serious injuries. Upon receiving the information, police pursued the suspects, resulting in an exchange of gunfire.

During this encounter, one suspect, later identified as Tariq Azeem, was arrested, while the other initially escaped. However, with Tariq’s identification, the police managed to arrest the fleeing accomplice, Muneer.

While escorting both suspects back to the police station, they were intercepted by four unidentified assailants near Chowk Shah Junaid, who opened allegedly fire on the police team in an attempt to free the detained suspects. In the ensuing exchange, the captured suspects Tariq and Muneer sustained severe injuries. SHO Gaggo police station Adnan Jameel Tipu shifted the injured suspects to the hospital for medical treatment, but they succumbed to their injuries en route.

DPO Isa Khan Sukhera reiterated that safeguarding the lives and property of the citizens remains the top priority. Efforts are underway to track down the associates of the deceased robbers.
